DJ and turntablist based in Seville

Soul, funk, R&B, hip hop and disco for weddings, company events and clubs, in Spain and abroad. Twenty years on the decks, thousands of hours of mixing and one or two weddings a month.

  • Behind the decks since 2004. First record credit in 2005, with 2 y Yassta.
  • Territorios Sevilla 2009, on the bill with De La Soul, DJ Muggs and Mix Master Mike.
  • More than 18,000 downloads of my mixtape Zas en toda la boca vol. 2.

Your feet will hurt tomorrow.
If they don't, I didn't do my job.

I'm Álex, DJ Zas. I learned the trade scratching for rap groups in Seville and playing funk and soul in small clubs, where one wrong record sends everyone to the bar.

These days I bring that ear to weddings, company events and clubs. I play open format with Black music in its DNA, which means across genres, for whoever is on the floor: soul and jazz for the drinks, funk and disco to open the party, R&B and classic hip hop at the peak. And when the floor wants rumba, Spanish pop or reggaeton, it gets them too, well mixed and at the right moment.

I don't want to be the star. The star is whoever is on the dance floor, and the next day I want someone to say "the DJ was great" without remembering ever looking at me.

My story, from 2005 to today (in Spanish)

This is what it sounds like

A banger is worth a thousand words

Before anyone tells you about it, hear it.

Tracks that actually played at parties I DJed, and the ones I most want to play at yours.

Press

«Keep an eye on this guy.»

Blas Fernández, Diario de Sevilla, 1 June 2009 (translated from Spanish: «A este tipo hay que seguirle la pista.»)From the review of Territorios Sevilla 2009 in Diario de Sevilla: my set on the CAAC stage began in front of a dozen people and ended with the crowd completely won over.Read the review (Spanish)

Scratch, yes. A show, no.

Runner-up at DMC Andalucía in 2006, the regional round of the world's best-known DJ battle, and twenty years of scratching. But at a wedding or a company dinner you won't see a scratch show. You'll notice details: a cut in a transition, a phrase repeated just before the chorus, a mix that drops in where nobody saw it coming.

It's how I play, not a separate act. The spotlight is on the dance floor. What you see in this video is where all of that comes from.

What a night with me sounds like

Every wedding and every event has its own script, but this is the route people ask me for most. We fine-tune it together in the music planner.

  1. Drinks

Soul, jazz, bossa and laid-back funk, at talking volume. On vinyl if the space allows.

  2. Dinner

An entrance to a song that says something about you, and background music that doesn't fight the conversation.

  3. Opening

The first dance, then funk and disco: the moment three generations get up at once.

  4. Peak

Classic R&B and hip hop, pop, rumba and whatever the floor asks for, mixed with intent.

  5. Closing

The anthems nobody wants to miss, and a last song agreed with you.

How I work

You deal with me from start to finish. I don't subcontract or send another DJ.

  1. You get in touch

Date, place and type of event, through the form, by email or on Instagram. I reply within 48 working hours.

  2. We get to know each other

By email or video call, or over a coffee if you're in Seville, so I understand your music, the venue and the crowd.

  3. We book the date

A fixed proposal in writing, a contract and half the fee. From then on, the date is yours. The other half is paid before we start, the day before or on the day.

  4. We plan the music

Your playlist, must-plays, do-not-plays, key moments and the timeline. I coordinate with your caterer or wedding planner.

  5. The night

I arrive early, soundcheck and read the floor live. All you have to do is dance.

Based in Seville, playing all over Spain

Most of my work is in Andalusia: Seville, Cádiz and Jerez, Huelva and Córdoba, plus Málaga and Marbella on the Costa del Sol. I also travel to the rest of Spain, and to Portugal and other countries on request.

Within the province of Seville, any travel charge depends on the distance. Outside it, travel and, when needed, accommodation are covered by the client. Everything is itemised in the quote.

My favourite crowd

American couples (and English speakers in general)

Something happens with them: what I most love to play is exactly what they most love to dance to. Hip hop, soul, funk and R&B they sing word for word. We plan in English, and on the day the music is the common language.

The DJ you'd fly in from home. Already in Seville.

Quick questions

Do you bring your own equipment?

My booth, always: two Rane Twelve decks and a Rane Seventy-Two mixer (Serato DJ Pro), or similar controllers and classic Technics. Sound and lights, not by default: you're booking the artist, and the venue or a supplier usually provides them. If you like, I'll quote them separately with trusted partners, itemised. More in what you're booking.

Where do you work?

I live in Seville and work mostly in western Andalusia (Seville, Cádiz, Jerez, Huelva, Córdoba), plus Málaga and Marbella, but I travel anywhere in Spain or abroad. Within the province of Seville, the travel charge depends on the distance and is itemised; outside it, the client covers travel and, when needed, accommodation. Getting married here? See how I work as a wedding DJ in Seville.

Do you only play hip hop?

No. Soul, funk, R&B, hip hop and disco are my specialism and the thread of the night, but I play open format: pop, house, rumba, reggaeton or 80s classics when the floor asks for them. The specialism is a mark of quality, not a limit.

What do you need from us first?

A Spotify playlist of the two of you. It's the base of my set, not the script: with it I know who you are musically and I prepare the night for you, not one set for every wedding. If your answer is "just play whatever", I'm probably not your DJ. Full story in your playlist first.

How much does it cost?

A wedding starts from €150 an hour plus VAT (€181.50 with VAT), with a four-hour minimum; extra hours are €150 plus VAT each. After that it depends on the date, the hours, the venue and whether I supply the sound or the lights. You get a fixed quote within 48 working hours. Half the fee books the date, and the other half is paid before we start, the day before or on the day. For market context, read how much a wedding DJ costs in Spain.

How can I get in touch?

Through the form on this page, by email at contacto@djzas.com or on Instagram at @djzas. I don't take bookings by phone, so every proposal is in writing.

Do you speak English?

Yes. I can run the whole planning in English, by email or video call, from the first message to the timeline.

Do you MC?

No, and I'd rather you knew before booking. I pick up the mic for your speeches and readings and, at most, a line to cue a moment: "everyone to the floor for a sevillana." No "good evening, this is DJ Zas", no conga, no Paquito el Chocolatero. If you want someone hosting the night on the mic, a friend with a bit of flair or a professional entertainer will do it far better than I would. It's a different job, and I'm happy to play the music for them.

Is your date still free?

I take one or two weddings a month, so I can prepare each one properly, well in advance. Tell me when and where, and I will reply personally with availability.
